01.

Client

Mastercard are a global technology company with a payment network connecting consumers, financial institutions, merchants, governments and businesses in more than 210 countries and territories.

02.

Challenge

AirWalk were engaged to establish the Programme Delivery and PMO function for a 10-year cross-border payment systems implementation portfolio covering Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

There was added complexity in that the sequence of mobilisation of each programme was unpredictable, and programme and complexity was generally unknown until each was mobilised due to local in-country factors.

03.

Solution

AirWalk leveraged principles from established Shared Service Centres to enable a structure geared to effectively deliver multiple concurrent programmes and managing a finite resource pool of SME and engineering capability.

04.

Outcome

By harmonising governance across programmes and projects, standardising solution architectures, seeking out options that engender re-use and embedding resource synergies, Mastercard now have:

  • End-to-end portfolio-level focus on global performance and progress measurement
  • Separation between Service and Delivery governance with meaningful controls in each leading to improved delivery consistency
  • A repeatable, standardised and scalable approach
